Uddiyana Bandha - the abdominal lock












One of the 3 powerful muscular locks (bandhas) that yogis practice.

While it has a long list of benefits, it is recommended that you practice Uddiyana bandha under the guidance of a knowledgable instructor. Ideally Jalandhar bandha should be mastered first before practicing this bandha.




Benefits:

  • massages all the organs in the abdominal area

  • regulates the functioning of the adrenal gland

  • improves the functions of liver and kidneys

  • improves and supports digestion

  • detoxifies and purifies the digestive tract


Contraindications:

  • avoid if you have blood pressure problems

  • not to be practiced during pregnancy

  • not to be practiced soon after meals
