Vipareeta Karni Mudra- powerhouse inverted pose!




The name of this pose quite literally translates to:" Inverted (Vipareeta)- doing(Karni)- gesture (Mudra)."

The highlight of this pose is the fact that it brings you all the benefits of advanced inverted postures such as Headstand, with none of the risks. Making it one of the most accessible inverted poses for people at all stages of their yoga journey!


Let us look at some of the benefits of this beautiful mudra!


  • Boosts blood flow to the face, neck, throat and shoulders, stimulating the thyroid gland.

  • Has an instant de-stressing effect and also known to alleviate negative emotional states and calm down anxiety.

  • tones the muscles of the neck and shoulders.

  • Helps with overall lymphatic drainage

  • Brings strength and stability to the wrists and elbows.

  • Relieves cramping and tiredness in legs + swollen leg issues

Contraindications:

Do not practice if you have any injuries in the neck + shoulders.

Inverted poses are not to be practiced by those with any blood pressure problems either.

Avoid practicing during menstruation.

Avoid if you have any serious eye disorders.


The ideal practice time for this pose is in the morning on an empty stomach, but you may practice it any time as long as you have at least 4 hours gap between your last meal!
